The following are taken from my training over the last two months.
I’ve actually not taken many photos of training recently, so this post is two months combined, focusing on training instead and actually leaving my headphones at home while running. For a while I never liked listening while running, then I listened to podcasts everytime, now I’m preferring being able to pay attention to the movement. Also, when I’m feeling down, it’s sometimes the motivation of knowing I should go out and take a photo of training which will make me get out the door. Now, I’m preferring to just exercise and focus on the movement. It’s phases of different motivation, which I guess is all part of the process.
I came 3rd place at the McDonald’s Mud Muster – my hometown mud run! In the male 18-39 10km category. (Race review to be posted soon.)
Chucking down my cellphone on the ground, I made this short video while out for a run.
I recently joined Yancy Camp – after hearing Yancy speak on multiple podcasts (I believe it was Obstacle Racing Media, Obstacle Order, and Obstacle Dominator – all good podcasts I suggest you listen to). If you want to know what makes a good obstacle racers, these guy’s and gal’s workouts are quite beyond where I’m currently training. The system of Yancy Camp gives you the workouts of some of the top obstacle athletes as programmed by Yancy Culp. It’s amazing to see how hard these top athletes train to be that fast in races. I’ve been scaling down the workouts, but doing them is stepping up my training so I’ll be prepared for my next race.
My next races will be the Manawatu Warrior in February – a short 6.4km; and after that will be the Wairua Warrior elite race in April – if I can afford to travel to it, having just graduated and working part-time jobs it’s pretty tricky to balance money across all areas of life at the moment.
Looking forward to 2016!
