I’ve recently launched two online active events. The beauty of these as online events is that they can be entered from anywhere in New Zealand, and from an organising perspective they don’t cost a lot up front to setup. Leading into organising a full obstacle race, these online events are good experience.
Parkour Online Video Comp
New Zealand’s first parkour video competition of its kind, and New Zealand’s first parkour prize money event! Entry is simple: create a parkour/freerunning video, incorporating 3 given elements.
I’m expecting some sick submissions to be made for this, and see NZ practitioners lift their game. You can watch the submissions on Movement Unleashed’s social media and website and on The Honest Parkour Show.
I was reading something about the basic sports event concept of collecting entry money and pooling it to create a prize pool, and wondered why no one has applied the concept to parkour yet. So decided to just start it.
Entries close 1st October 2016.
Tidy Kiwi Run
A New Zealand based virtual run in which participants complete a series of physical challenges – on your own time, from wherever you are. Being in a country with amazing outdoor nature, it seemed only natural to tie this into supporting Keep New Zealand Beautiful.
This event is inspired by the virtual runs I see some obstacles racing organisations in the US and Australia organising, but then realised no race companies are doing the same here in NZ. So here we go, get outside and do some running.
Event takes place 11th-17th September 2016.
The Tidy Kiwi Run includes a discount to the Legends Events & Media mud run in 2017, which I’ve blogged previously about as ‘project obstacle race’. Now that there’re discount codes going out the event is going to have to become a reality! As there’s positive pressure on myself to push ahead and get the mud run a reality.
Signup to the online events now, and receive a discount code to the upcoming ‘project obstacle race’.
