I’d like to introduce a new sponsor to my athletic efforts:
Star is a fitness and life-coaching business which offers Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi and more. It is a place to catch your breath, and bring attention to yourself, your health, and your life.
Star is my first official sponsor and is supporting me for the Loaded Tough Guy & Gal Challenge Wellington next month May 23rd 2015. This obstacle course race is kicking off the 2015 season of New Zealand’s original mud run series, and it’s exciting to see their expansion this year into more locations and continued support for a Tough Guy & Gal Championship race, started last year, which sees the top 3 in each division of their regional 12kms qualify.
As something which needs mentioning: Star is owned by my partner, and I’ve previously helped instruct fitness classes. So I already have a connection to the business before they joined the sponsor family. However, the value I’m able to offer is, for me, a demonstration of what I can offer future sponsors and will be a test to see if the return I can give in terms of meeting their goals is valuable enough to justify their support of my costs for the Tough Guy & Gal Wellington. Based on my performance at the next two Tough Guy & Gal races, I’ll be pursuing further sponsorship to support my continued racing. So this is a test of a system, and I’d like to welcome Star to the sponsor family!
The fitness advice and coaching Shelley gives me has improved my ongoing preparation for obstacle racing. While I hate it at the time, her making me get out off the couch and go running while it’s raining has definitely been something which I’m, and my fitness, is thankful for afterwards.
Yesterday’s training video
As part of being supported by Star I’ll be making a few short media items for them, so yesterday I took a camera with me to the park to capture my obstacle training.
My planned workout for that day was: as fast as possible of 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 pushups, pullups, knees to elbows; and then 6x 100m sprints. I found the CrossFit-style portion hard… I took slower than I expected to complete it. But then 100m sprints weren’t so bad… as they’re something I’ve been doing every month or so in my training recently and by this point they’re definitely easier than when I first attempted them months ago. So my fitness is improving, but there’s still a long way to go to reach a top level of fitness.
The Loaded Tough Guy & Gal Challenge Wellington, is one month away on the 23rd of May… so I have a month to continue training. More videos and content with Star coming soon.
